The Signs only purpose is to scan. It is hardly visible and moderately fast. Signs will be spawned throughout the universe by any base with at least 10.000 minions. Signs are very hard to scan. Even in mid and late game. They are your eyes and ears. Spread them and watch your victims before the Storm.
Note that any hit of a weapon that can hit soft spots automatically destroys the Sign, but any weapon that cannot hit a soft spot is unable to harm this ship. It is of course very easy to kill by Boarding Lasers or to capture by Feds/Stormers.
